KUTA & LEGIAN

Everybody looking for some action and fun in the evening goes to Kuta which nowadays means the area extending about 4 miles or 7 kilometers north from the original village of Kuta and includes now Legian, Seminyak and even Basangkasa. Here is most of the better entertainment places offering EVERYTHING single male or female visitors as well as couples might be looking for.
Also, watch out for notices and small posters in Kuta and Seminyak announcing special events such as Full Moon Parties, House Warming Parties, Body Painting Parties, etc, etc. If these “parties” are announced to the public (even if only by word-of-mouth), they are open for everybody. You’ll have to pay for your drinks, therefore, don’t be shy.

THE BOUNTY. Behind Paddy’s reloaded, Notorious den of day-glo iniquity spread over three floors plays host to legions of very drunk holidaying teenagers every night of the week. Shamelessly commercial top 40 hits all night long but a fun, if not unbearably cheesy night out. Open 10pm until late.
CENTRE STAGE. The Hard Rock Hotel’s bar and club area plays host to travelling international acts and Top 40 chart hit. Pricey bar but worth a visit if only to grab a drink by the impressively designed swimming pool.
KORI RESTAURANT AND BAR. There’s a comfortable bar at the front of the restaurant for those who prefer things a little quieter. Unplugged sessions on Wednesday and Sundays with excellent cocktails and an adjoining pool and cigar room provide a great place to spend the evening.
MACCARONI CLUB. Another Legian institution, expensive but widely varied cocktail menu. Never seems to really get going until the weekend but a good spot to plot up on the comfy sofas and people watch the Kuta crowds bar – hopping.
M BAR GO. A short march up from Paddy’s and The Bounty but a world apart in terms of decor with its huge downstairs dance floor playing R&B and Hip Hop to flocking Kuta poseurs. Upstairs on the veranda at 3am is a much better crowd with awesome funky House sets sometimes going down and a very up-for-it crowd getting groovy. Regularly hosts fashion parties and promo nights for the surf labels around town with some of the best looking door staff on the island.
SKY GARDEN. A relatively new addition to the Kuta skyline, the Sky Garden casts a formidable gaze over the rooftops of Legian with a slightly more refined feel to the interior and the crowds it attacks. Less emphasis on the commercial top 40 playlists of neighboring Paddy’s and They Bounty make this a little oasis in a tropical pit of hedonism.
The JAYA PUB on the main road in Seminyak features also live music and attracts many Indonesian customers who don’t mind the chilling air-conditioning and the sometimes horrible bands and singers.
SEMINYAK
BACIO. Spacious two-floored restaurant, bar and warm up spot for further clubbing adventures in the locale. Funky House Music policy keeps the well-heeled party crew on their toes to the break of dawn.
BAHIANA. Latino booty shaking rhythms to get the libido fully charged before a trip to the bigger clubs. A fun diversion to four-to-the-floor House music, always fun to kick back with a cocktail and ogle the beautiful people gyrating round the dance floor.
DE JA VU. Recently revamped and enlarged to pump louder and longer. Expect Funky House beats galore in a stylish surround. Watch out though, the relaxed door policy of yesteryear is out and now you’ve got to dress up to get down. Great spot to find a dancing partner and close enough for a stumble in the direction of double Six for some late night shenanigans.

DOUBLE SIX. The mackdaddy of Bali club scene still the busiest club on the island. Thousands of people pack in nightly to hear the latest techno dance music and look cool at the various air-conditioned bars. Veers toward the Euro beat genre and needs to book some more ‘edgy’ DJ’s but you won’t hear too many complaints from the punters at 3am. Watch out who you head home with on your arm.
F LOUNGE. Stylish bar/club that really gets going after midnight with a tiny dance floor area playing home to a pulsating speaker system and a cool mix of progressive Houses tunes from the resident DJ’s on rotation.
KUDOS. A Dhyana Pura alternative with plenty of boys flying around the upstairs terrace and an ‘anything goes’ attitude to their partying. Drag shows and all manner of hijinks are order of the night here.
KU DE TA. Can anyone knock these guys off their Seminyak throne as the kings of cool? Probably not though we’re inviting newcomers to take them on. Sunset, lounge chairs, almost any drink imaginable, impeccable service and sinfully trendy crowd keep the joint pumping night after night, week after week, mount after…
OBSESION. In the hearth of Dhyana Pura Street, the home of the famous Saharadja Band. The decoration is a touch of mixed Asian and Oriental styles. Crewed with expats and Indonesian people. It’s the place where you can hear the sound of the best live bands in Bali in a cool and friendly atmosphere, with a Mojito Coctail or some Brazilian’s Caipihrinas.
Q-BAR. The original bar for the ‘alternative’ crowd, Q-BAR is famous for its drag shows, fashion parades and other raunchy events. Leave your inhibitions at the door, enjoy the stage act and dance until 3am. The upstairs lounge has some pretty interesting artwork and a tactically placed balcony for watching the nightly madness unfold.
SANTA FE. The original western styles bar in this street with a large stage to accommodate live bands and continue to attract hordes of visitors almost every evening.
